New Twist to an Old Favorite!

Blueberry Ketchup with Sweet Potato Oven Fries

Cheers to waiting out the record cold weather by cooking some good finger food with a friend and her kids (5 & 8).  I thought this meal would be perfect for her kids.  What kid doesn't like fries with ketchup?  These two kids!  In their defense, these were a little different than the usual fries and ketchup they're used to.

Blueberry Ketchup
The book describes ketchup to be a type of condiment with 'familiar combination of flavors and spices', the most famous being tomato ketchup.  Altering the fruit based adds a new twist and naturally I'm drawn to this recipe because it's mixing up the norm.  After cooking down the ingredients (the combination smelled similar to tomato ketchup, yum), we blended this into a beautifully smooth concoction creating a brilliant colored dipping sauce.

Sweet Potato Oven Fries
Recently I've been making sweet potato fries with sea salt and cook them with the broiler.  This recipe takes the cake for ease and taste.  The hard part was to cut the sweet potatoes into fries and I pawned that part off on my friend; which left me the easy part...season and cook.  With olive oil, chili powder, dried thyme, salt, and pepper; we baked, flipped, baked, and ate.

Big kid approved, however the real kids did thumbs down and said it was 'nasty.'  Proves that less picky kids, regardless of size, enjoy this new twist to an old favorite.
